Iran: protests against law on husband providing permission for a woman to travel

Shahindokht Molavardi, the Iranian regime's presidential deputy on Women and Family Affairs, said on 30 September that she has received 1,040 emails protesting the law that forces women to request their husbands' permission to travel.

The law is related to article 18 of the Passport Law of 1972. The article says a married woman must have her husband's permission to leave the country. This "permit" must be listed in the Register of Official Documents.

Just recently Nilufar Ardalan, captain of Iran's national futsal team was not able to leave the country and did not participate in the Asian games in Malaysia, because her husband denied her permission to travel. Ardalan's travel ban gained widespread coverage in social media.
