Women’s unemployment in Iran

The Iran Statistic Center reported recent figures showing unemployment in 11 provinces amongst women between the ages of 15 to 24 above 50%. These statistics were reported 43.8% from March 2014 to March 2015.

The three provinces of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad and Mazandaran have rated unemployment amongst young women at 71.2, 67.5 and 66.7 percent, respectively, ranking as the three worst provinces in Iran.

Rural women in general have major roles in production. Therefore, the high rate ofyoung women’s unemployment in Mazandaran is unexpected and it appears this is the result of rising unemployment in urban areas. Unemployment amongst young women in urban and rural areas of Mazandaran Province is 44.4 and 32.3 percent, respectively. Furthermore, at 19.4% Sistan and Baluchistan Province has the lowest unemployment amongst young
women in Iran.
